2. The issue of gender

I think the government has done to a lot to reduce the instances of gender discrimination. The government has come a long way such as: now we have the right to vote and own property without a man. Another big change was the Equal Pay Act, which prohibits employers from paying different wages for the same job on account of sex. The government tends to excuse more woman for the crimes they have done and tend to give more sentences to men. There are some instances where men and women are still discriminated, but there is really nothing more the government can do. Woman are discriminated (most of the time) as being a child care taker and the man (most of the time) holds down the job of the household.

  1. I agree that we have come a long way in gender discrimination. Women have many more rights than before but I can't help but think the government did not do enough. there are many families today that still have the mentality of the "alpha male". Im not sure if that will every change.

  2. I think that the property ownership was a good step toward equality. Unfortunately as you stated, the inequality still exist between people based on gender. I don't know if government should intervene as much as they could possibly because things take time to be acceptable to everyone and while there is some sexism in existence then even the government wouldn't be able to fully stomp it out regardless of how many laws or policies they pass.

  3. I agree that the government has done a pretty good job at making sure that women have as good a chance as anyone at getting and holding a job. When it comes to pay, I think the government has tried but the job is not done. More needs to be done because women aren't getting payed as much as men are at the same job. Most men get payed more. Maybe because society looks at men as the bread winners of the family, but there are a lot of single moms out there. it's sad that the same work is being done but if your a women you don't get payed as much. Need to be changed.

  4. I agree that the government done an awesome job stepping in and giving us the right to own property with a man and giving us the right to vote, even thou the brave women had to take the steps they had to, to get us here. You are right that government can not really do anything to solve the discrimination between men and women, where men think that the woman's place is at home talking care of the house and children while they are out working. I think that is more of discrimination handed down within a family from man to man.
